Late this month, an Emu escaped from it’s farm and made a break for the dense forest outside of Nanimo on British Columbia’s Vancouver Island. The inappropriately named Lucy is a 16 year old male emu who broke out of his enclosure and had been spotted several times enjoying sweet, sweet freedom in Nanimo’s Northwest side.
Of course, a Twitter account appeared shortly after, and Lucy quickly became somewhat of a local celebrity.
Due to reports of deep, low growls, it is thought that Lucy made himself a bit of hideout somewhere along Jingle Pot Road, somewhat ironic considering that emu is amongst the tastiest of game species being raised in Canada. Since their growling is most often compared to a cougar’s, the below graphic might just help someone figure out what could be out woods…
In case anyone was actually concerned for Lucy’s well-being while loose on an island chock-full of bears, cougars, and more bears, Lucy was safely apprehended after nearly a week on the lamb and returned home.
