Raising game birds runs in Ralph Gerber’s family. Inspired by his brother’s Chukar partridge farm, Ralph decided to diversify his 100 acre family run goat farm to include pheasants.

Once 6.5 acres of the land was netted to allow the pheasants outdoor access, Ralph became involved in nearly every aspect of raising the birds, though feeding them is his favourite part of the process. Once the eggs are laid, Ralph collects them personally to send over to his brother’s farm and federally licensed hatchery, and then collects the chicks to raise back on his property.

The only thing Ralph enjoys more than feeding and raising his pheasants is getting out in the fall for a little bit of deer hunting.
