Flintshire Farms is a sophisticated game bird farm in the hills of Addington Highlands near Flinton, Ontario that has been operating for over 30 years. Owners Ken and Cathy both began as wildlife biologists who had experience with commercial poultry operations.
Over a 15 year period, in an effort to produce a better pheasant, the Hooks selectively bred recessive gene pure white pheasants to eliminate the colour “bruises” obtained during the plucking process. Also with 60 acres under netting to protect the birds, they are allowed to fly, roam and graze naturally. This lifestyle helps to produce pheasants with larger breasts and more flavourful meat.
Given the worldwide demand for Flintshire Farms birds, it is no wonder their phone rings constantly in the July to December harvesting season. It is also not surprising that the staff at Flintshire like to escape to Mazinaw Lake, for a little time away from the phones!
